The end of the China journey....the beginning of life as a family of 4

We are home!!

The last leg of our journey was memorable, for sure!

Sunday was a fun day of sightseeing in Guangzhou.  Our guide took us to a beautiful park where I was able to commission an artist to write Quinn’s Chinese Name in classic calligraphy, along with a poem based on his name.  We had a similar scroll for Zane, so I was excited to find someone who could do it for us.

That afternoon, we went to another park across the street from our hotel.  It was a huge park with many people enjoying their Sunday afternoon.  Quinn made friends with a group of retired men and women, who loved playing with him. It was fun to go at our own pace, and get lots of walking in.

Had to add at least one crying pic...so cute when he's mad!

On Sunday night, Monte and I both started running fevers, but we were able to make it to the US Consulate on Monday to take the “Oath” for Quinn, and finish up the US paperwork.  On Tuesday, because we were still feeling bad, we just slept in and packed up for the 4 hour drive to Hong Kong.  We arrived in Hong Kong around 9pm, and our flight home left on Wednesday am at 10:30am.  After about 24 hours in the air and on layovers, we finally arrived to Charlotte on Wednesday night.  Quinn was such a great little flyer!  He just played happily or slept most of the trip. The airline was so gracious to us, switching the gentleman sharing our row to another seat, so we could have 3 seats, (even though Quinn was just a “lap” ticket).   It was the nicest plane of our whole trip.  So, it was as good as it could be -- except for the fact that my “cold” apparently progressed to ear infections and neither of us slept at all!!!  The flights were hard, but I just kept counting my blessings that Quinn was not freaking out, that we had plenty of room, and that it would eventually be over!!

Once we got home, everything becomes blurry!!  I slept for what feels like 2 days, while our parents took over everything.  Zane and Quinn are so sweet together….Zane is such a good helper, and is still excited to be the big brother.  On the drive home, Quinn was not excited about the car-seat, so my sweet Zane held Quinn’s hand and tried to distract him with his leapster.  Even better: after 2 weeks of agonizing/terrifying bath times, Quinn has finally determined that if Zane likes baths, then he will, too!!!  Yay!!! Thank you, big brother.  They   had lots of fun playing with the grandparents while Monte and I recuperated, and the back yard playground is a big hit!  We’re so thankful for nice weather to welcome us home (though it feels more like June than April!!)  Now, Monte has returned to work, and I am on my own with the boys…hopefully we can get into a routine and work on some sleep issues before I start back to work in May.

Thank you all for your prayers for us!  What an incredible, hard, wonderful journey we have had to this amazing & brave little boy.
